Korn – Freak On a Leash – 1998

Korn was one of the most-prolific bands of the 90s music scene, and in 1998 they released one of their biggest hits, “Freak On A Leash.”

One of the best things to come out of Bakersfield, California, besides a line from a Rolling Stones song, Korn was formed in 1993 by Richard Morrill, James Shaffer, Reginald Arvizu and David Silveria, who was only fifteen-years old at the time.

The video you are about to watch is the original music video of “Freak On a Leash”. It’s a well-made video with great Speed Raceresque animation and some pretty wild special effects following the long flight of a single bullet.

Please enjoy the following video responsibly. No horseplay!

Sugar Ray – Fly – 1997

Sugar Ray had a string of hits, including; “Every Morning”, “Someday”, and “When It’s Over”, but the one you’re about to see in a moment was their breakthrough hit in 1997, “Fly“.

Sugar Ray formed in the affluent coastal community of Newport Beach, California back in 1988, but hadn’t had much success until the release of “Fly”, causing them to change musical styles, ultimately leading to more and more success.

Sugar Ray’s still going strong, today, with band members Mark McGrath, Rodney Sheppard, Murphy Karges, Stan Frazier and one past member, Craig “DJ Homicide” Bullock. The video you are about to see of “Fly” is tons of joy. I hope you like it, too.

Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch – Good Vibrations – 1991

Before Mark Wahlberg became an extremely-accomplished actor, he had a brief, yet fiery run as a hip hop star called Marky Mark. Mark and his band, The Funky Bunch, wowed audiences worldwide with their electric and energetic music and performances, including a song you’re about to see (and hear) “Good Vibrations“.

Hailing from Boston, MA, Wahlberg brought the urban grit into his songs, creating quite a sensation. Unfortunately, Marky Mark has some run ins with the law that shortened the band’s career.

The video you are abou to see is the Official Video of “Good Vibrations”, definitely not to be confused with the Beach Boys version!

Eminem – My Name Is – 1999

Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St. Joseph, MO, got most of his gritty, urban sensibilities when he moved to Detroit with his mom.

A talented and gifted musician, he’s still going strong, but back in the 90s he closed out the decade with this big hit, My Name Is, Part 1. Part tongue-in-cheek, part parody, but mostly rap, the video you are about to see is from 1999. Hey, My name is Shady!

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under the Bridge – 1991

Los Angeles has spawned many great rock bands over the years, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers is no exception. Formed in 1983 by lead singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary, then later joined by drummer Chad Smith.

Over the years the Chili Peppers have had a slew of hits, including the one you’re about to see, Under the Bridge. You can sense influences of Tom Petty in some of the guitar riffs and melancholy vocals.

The video you are about to see is the official “Under the Bridge” video. I hope you enjoy it.

Radiohead – Creep – 1993

Radiohead is a band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England who formed in 1985 with members Thom Yorke (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (guitars, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O’Brien (guitars, backing vocals), and Phil Selway (drums, percussion), a continuation of the “British Invasion”.

Creep was released as a single in 1992, but didn’t fare well until it was released in 1993 on the album Pablo Honey. A building, haunting melody that emphasizes the power of lead singer Yorke’s vocal range.

Barenaked Ladies – One Week – 1998

One of the most-fun bands to break into the 90s music scene was the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies, who had a big hit in “One Week“.

Founding members Steven Page and Ed Robertson attended school together in Scarsborough, Ontario, Canada, a suburb of Toronto. They became fast friends after bumping into one another after a Peter Gabriel concert and realized the had similar musical interests.

The Barenaked Ladies are known for their fun concerts and improvising between songs, which is fairly standard. They are also known in the Geek World as the composers of the ‘Big Bang Theory’s’ theme song, which they song at the 2010 Comic-Con convention, surprising and delighting the attendees.

I hope you enjoy this live version of “One Week” I found for you. “But if I made fims, they’d have a samurai.”

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit – 1991

To many, the Anthem of 90s music came from a grunge band from Seattle, named Nirvana, that blasted the airwaves with this raucous, rough, gritty song named “Smells Like Teen Spirit“.

The band was formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, then joined later by drummer Dave Grohl. One of the most-popular bands, not only of the 90s music scene, but all time, Nirvana ended its great run in 1994 after Kurt Cobain’s death. He had been troubled for many years and struggled with drug abuse before taking his own life.

The video you are about to see is the official music video of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. I hope you enjoy.

90s Music – House of Pain – Jump Around – 1992

With the onset of 90s music, many new styles and bands popped up, leaving much of the whimsy of the 80s behind. In 1992, newly-formed band House of Pain rocked the house with their hit song, and one of the biggest hits of the 90s, Jump Around.

Band members Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal formed the hip hop band in Los Angeles in 1991, but their Irish-American roots made them seem more of a Boston band. The song Jump Around climbed to number six on the Irish charts and number three on America’s.

I hope you enjoy this early music video as much as I do. You just can’t listen to it and not jump around!
